Editing and Deleting Events
Learn how to edit event details and delete an event from the Edit Event dialog.
After an event is created, you can update its details at any time or remove it when it is no longer needed. Most people work from the default list view: open the event details page, use the admin Manage menu, then edit or delete from the Edit Event dialog.
Open an Event
Go to the Events page
Click the event card
Use the admin Manage menu
Note
Editing an Event
Edit event opens the multi-step Edit Event dialog with the current settings filled in. You can jump between steps freely while editing.
Common changes include:
- Basic Info — title, type, visibility, and location
- Date and Time — start/end dates and times, or the daily schedule for multi-day events
- Details — short description, full description, and cover image
- Settings — RSVP options, capacity, eligibility, and live stream
- Organizers — who can help manage the event

Tip
Deleting an Event
Deleting removes the event from calendars, lists, and public pages. Use this when an event was created by mistake or will not happen at all.
Warning
Open Edit Event
Click Delete Event in the dialog footer

Note
What Happens When You Delete
- The event is removed from calendars, event lists, and public pages.
- Official community feed posts that linked to the event are retracted so the feed does not advertise a deleted event.
- Associated registration and related records are kept for integrity, but the event is no longer available for new activity.
Tip
Other Ways to Reach Edit Event
The list → details → Manage → Edit event path is the usual flow. You can also open the same dialog from:
- Calendar view — switch to calendar, click a day, then click Edit on the event card in the day list (or click the card when you have edit permission).
From the calendar day list only, one-time events can also show a Delete action on the card itself. The Edit Event dialog footer still works for every event type you can edit.
Recurring Services: Cancel a Single Week
For a Recurring Service, you often need to skip one week (holiday, weather, building closure) without removing the whole series. Cancel that occurrence instead of deleting the series.
On the calendar view, open the day for that service, then on the service card choose Cancel This Occurrence (optionally add a reason). Later you can Restore Occurrence if plans change.
To change the time, name, or repeat schedule for the whole series, open Manage → Edit event from the service details page and save your updates. See Managing Recurring Services for more detail.
Warning
Permissions
- events.edit — required to use Manage → Edit event and save changes
- events.delete — required to use Delete Event in the edit dialog footer
Permission is granted through roles in Settings. Organization owners and admins typically have both permissions by default.
