Grades and report cards
Record assignment scores or term grades, publish report cards, and help families find their students' reports.
Note
Choose the class and term
Staff open Academics → Classes → Grades and choose a class. Teachers open their class under My classes and choose Grades. Select the term before entering anything. A class that spans several terms has a separate gradebook for each term.
Set the grading method
Open Grading settings. Classes start as Not graded. Choose Enter term grades directly to record a final grade and comment without assignments, or Calculate from assignments to use scores. Final grades can display as percentages, letters, or pass/fail. Letter thresholds and the passing percentage are editable.
Assignment calculations use total points unless you select weighted categories. Category weights must add up to 100%, and every assignment must have a category. Categories without scored or missing work are excluded temporarily; the remaining weights are normalized. The gradebook shows which categories are not contributing yet.
Copy settings copies settings from another term only when you choose it. Review assignment categories and entered grades afterward. Changing the method preserves earlier work and changes draft calculations. Published reports keep their original settings.
Record assignment results
Open Assignments to add work with a title and positive points possible. A due date and description are optional. New work starts with the currently enrolled roster; you can select fewer students. Students who join later do not automatically owe earlier work. Edit an earlier assignment to add them explicitly.
Score fields are ready to type into. A blank score stays ungraded and does not count as zero; enter points to include it in the calculation. Clearing the points makes the work ungraded again.
- Scored uses the entered points, between zero and points possible, with up to two decimal places.
- Missing counts as zero and contributes to the possible points.
- Ungraded is excluded from the calculation and counts as incomplete work. A past due date does not change it to Missing.
- Excused is excluded from both the calculation and incomplete-work count.
Existing assigned work stays in the student's history. Use Excused when the student no longer owes it. Archive an assignment to remove it from draft calculations; restore it to include the same scores again. Published reports do not change.
Enter a final grade and comment
Select a student's final grade to open the drawer. In a manually graded class, enter the grade directly; no override reason is needed. In an assignment-based class, an entered final grade overrides the calculation for reports and requires a short staff-only reason. The calculated grade stays visible. Return to calculation removes the override.
Incomplete is a final outcome, separate from a failing grade. The report comment is visible to families when staff publish the report card. Override reasons remain staff-only.
Warning
Preview and publish report cards
Staff with grade-view access open the term's Reports tab to preview draft progress reports. A teacher's preview contains only their own class. Families cannot see drafts.
Staff with report-publishing permission review the preview, resolve errors, and acknowledge any incomplete-work warning before publishing. A student with no counted work needs an entered final grade or an explicit Incomplete outcome. Publishing saves the school's names, grades, settings, comments, and publication date as that version.
Corrections create a new version with a reason. Earlier versions stay in staff history. A withdrawn report is no longer available to families; already printed or saved copies cannot be recalled. Publishing does not send an automatic email.
Find and print a student's reports
The optional attendance summary counts held class sessions, not school days or instructional hours. Totals appear only when recorded attendance and enrollment history reliably cover the period. Older records may therefore have no attendance summary.
Families open My family and choose Reports for their student. Only authorized guardians can open that student's published report cards. Open a report and choose Print / Save as PDF to use the browser's print dialog. Staff can also print draft progress reports and selected student report cards.
Report cards are academic summaries. Hubl does not provide official transcripts, GPA or credit calculations, assignment submission, or government filing.
